Visualeyes Beats Tap Room 6-5 in Shootout

Visualeyes never trailed, but needed a shootout to put away Third Street Tap Room in Monday night's EMHL match-up at Buffalo State Arena. Adam Roma shut the door in the shoot-out, stopping both shooters as Eric Schottke and Garren Resiweber put away the win, burying their opportunities.

Schottke led the way offensively for Team V, scoring two quick goals in the first period on feeds from Reisweber and Duffy Dunnigan. Tap Room answered back though, taking advantage of Team V turnovers, and knotted the score at 2. Newcomer, Adam Bellows made his presence felt early on, scoring his first career EMHL goal, giving Visualeyes the lead again in the third. Tap Room again battled back, and locked the score up at three just one minute later.

Dunnigan adds 3 Helpers in WIN
Familiar faces again found the back of the net for Visualeyes, first Schottke scored his third of the game ringing the left post and in on a breakaway from Ryan Donnelly. Bellows ripped home a wrist shot on the power play from the top of the right circle, coming off the stick of Duff Dunnigan again. Dunnigan notched his second straight play-maker. Tap Room continued to play tough, trailing by one with one period to go.

As the third period began, Team V found themselves in penalty trouble as Matt Mesi and Drew Leberer-Kasperczyk both took minors. Visualeyes killed off Mesi's infraction but could not stop Tap Room on Leberer-Kasperczyk's penalty. The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the third period , but could not break the tie. Failing to score in the third period cost Team V the win in regulation and sent the game to a shootout.

Eric Schottke attempted first for Visualeyes and beat Tap Room's goalie with a nifty backhand deke. Roma stopped the first Tap Room shooter, and Reisweber all but sealed the deal with a quick wrister above the goalies glove. Roma locked up the win with a beautiful toe save.

After the game, Matt English-Gunning spoke about the win. "I'm glad that as a team were picking up where we left off last season. Bellows is a great addition to our D core. Personally I need to bear down and bury on scoring chances. That game should've never gone to a shootout. I need to put the puck in the net, bottom line. And how good does Mesi look in his new gear. You know what I always say, look good, feel good play good."

After the game, Andrew Valint felt a little differently about his pal Mesi. "For some guys the anxiety of their first skate really played a huge role. We need men like Mesi to keep their emotions in check and not take lazy penalties. Good thing we were resilient and his selfish play didn't cost team v the victory."

Ryan Donnelly kept things a bit more positive. "It was another great win. We found a way to pull it out. I had a couple of rough shifts in the first that resulted in two goals for 3rd street. I just wanted to keep working hard. Watching other guys like AV for example, backcehck and forechekck like an animal kept me going."
