VISUALEYES DROPS TO CHEF'S IN SHOOTOUT

With plenty of hype and expectation for the "Friday Night Bash", Team Visualeyes embarrassed themselves in front of a record number of fans, losing to the top team in the "B" division, Chef's, 9-8 in a shootout at Buffalo State Arena.

CROWE scores in 5th Straight Game
Team V jumped out to an early lead, as Jerry Crowe (Kenmore) darted in from his off wing and ripped a wrister over the glove of the Chef's goaltender. That lead didn't last long though as, Player/Coach/GM/Equipment Manager, Drew Leberer (North Tonawanda) miss-played the puck in the neutral zone, allowing the street hockey hero, #17, to score on a breakaway.

Both teams battled back with goals just seconds apart. Mike Cohen, (Williamsville) a Team USA phenom in the 2009 Maccabi Games was called up for Friday's game as the Flu bug ripped through Team Visualeyes' forwards. Cohen's fast feet and hands provided the second goal of the game from Crowe and Bob Simpson-Corigliano (Tonawanda).

Visualeyes defense struggled immensely all night, giving up 5 breakaways, leaving Adam Roma (Lancaster) high and dry multiple times. These breakaways and odd man rushes left the team down 7-3 with ten minutes left in the second period. Visualeyes dug deep though and scored the next five goals of the game, going up 8-7. Simpson-Corigliano, Garren Reisweber (Williamsville), Steve Browne (Kenmore), and Dan Brown (Lancaster) all contributed in the effort, with Dan Brown netting two.

The longer Chef's stayed in the game, the better their chances were to making it a game, and that is exactly what they did. Playing tight defensively and spreading our Team V in the neutral zone, allowed Chef's to tie it up in the third. Chef's momentum from tying the game in the third carried over into the shootout, as  they beat Adam Roma twice.

Netting his second goal of the season, and first on the power play, Steve Browne added after the loss, "We just couldn't handle the pressure of the team owner being in the stands, we really let him down. Also, Fedele should have shot in the shootout, I don't know what coach was thinking."

Defensemen Ryan Donnelly (Tonawanda), felt the same way as Browne, "With the owner in the stands, it seemed like we were all trying to do a little too much individually. But hey, when your boss is in the crowd and with many of us in contract years, we just tried to do too much instead of letting the game come to us. Also, we have to find a way to get Fedele out on the ice more. He looked great in warm-ups and could bring a lot of energy to the team.

Matt English-Gunning (West Seneca), back from an undisclosed injury, skated with Team V for just the third game this year added his first point with an assist to Simpson-Corigliano. English-Gunning said after the game "Plain and simple, we need to be better. I don't think that we were totally focused and that needs to change. We cannot play down to the level of the other teams. We have ten days off, so we need to have a good week of practice and show up next Tuesday, ready for the Blue Jackets."
