Visualeyes Survives Scare from Chef’s

The old cliché of “A two goal lead is the worst lead in hockey” played true as Team V took on Chef’s on the 18th of December. Team V went up 2-0 early, on goals from Matt Mesi and Mike Denz, but didn’t answer back until it was almost too late.

Chef’s poured it on in the second period, scoring five goals, leading the first place Team V, 5-2. Visualeyes could not beat the Chef’s net-minder as they peppered him with shot after shot. It wasn’t until the Captain, Drew Leberer-Kasperczyk, scored an impossible angle goal off the rebound of a Michael Denz slap shot. The Captain’s goal recharged Visualeyes, and within four minutes, Kevin Rogers, added one, and Duffy Dunnigan added two to take a 6-5 lead.

Visualeyes held on to the one goal lead for the remaining 2 two and a half minutes on strong defensive play from Ian and Drew Leberer. It was the first time the brothers were paired together since Ian left Team V in 2010 for his dream of joining the PGA Tour in Florida. Ian did not look a step out of place, even leading the rush several times  and setting up 2 goals after not playing competitively in over 1 1/2 years.  The Leberer brothers combined for a plus 6 rating, and 5 points in the victory.

Mike Murray stepped in and backstopped the fifth consecutive Team Visualeyes victory in place of Adam Roma. Murray showed promising signs of possible future call-ups.
